NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College Lacrosse team was defeated by non-conference foe Lehigh 13-3 Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field.
The Maroon & Gold were outshot 31-22 by the Mountain Hawks. Iona converted on 1-5 free-position shots, while Lehigh went 1-3. The Gaels turned the ball over 27 times, compared to the Mountain Hawks' 19.
Junior Pamela Giordano led the Gaels offensively, taking nine shots (five on goal) and connecting for one goal. Senior Erin Pugh scored one goal, grabbed four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Senior Grace Celona tallied the final Iona goal, while adding two ground balls.
In net, sophomore Shannon McCaffrey stopped 13 Mountain Hawks shots, caused three turnovers, and grabbed seven ground balls.
For the Mountain Hawks, Allison LaBeau led the way, accumulating four goals, two assists, and two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Taylor Tvedt picked up the win making eight saves in 58 minutes.
Iona is next in action this Wednesday at Mazzella Field as they take on Lafayette at Mazzella Field, beginning at 3:00 PM.
