Stony Brook Snaps Iona Volleyball Winning Streak

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College volleyball program had its nine match winning streak snapped at home in non-conference action against Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves defeated the Gaels in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-8).

MATCH RECAP

Stony Brook won the first set 25-21 with a .344 hitting percentage and .438 kill percentage. Three different Seawolves players had three kills in the opening set. Included among that bunch was McKayla Brooks, who finished the match with 12 kills, two digs, five blocks and a .647 hitting percentage.

Iona dropped the second set 25-21 due in large part to Stony Brook committing zero attacking errors in the game. There were eight ties in the set but the Seawolves pulled away with a 7-1 spurt that made the score 14-9.  The Maroon & Gold hit a match-best .389 in the second set.

Stony Brook won the third set 25-8. It is tied for the lowest point total in a set for Iona. The previous match in which they had eight points in a single-set was on Aug. 25 in the season-opener against Valparaiso. The Crusaders currently have 20 wins on the season.

Sunday's contest was the finale non-conference game of the 2018 season.
