POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Iona College volleyball team earned its fifth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory in four-set thriller at Marist. Coupled with Fairfield's loss at Niagara, the Gaels moved into first place all alone in the league standings after their first eight contests.

- Senior outside hitter Claire Archibald led the Gaels with a 22-kill, 14-dig double-double, her 11th in 13 matches this season.
- Archibald hit .265 and recorded an assisted block for a match-high 22.5 points.
- Archibald is now Iona's all-time leader in attack attempts with 3,909. She broke a 16-year old school record in yesterday's match held by recent Iona Goal Club Hall of Famer Kathy Kunath (3,847).
- Senior middle hitter Mia Bonsignore and sophomore right-side hitter Jamie Smith each had 11 kills in the win.
- Smith added six digs and Bonsignore had two blocks for the Maroon & Gold.
- Junior middle hitter Karla Johnson hit .400 with seven kills and a team-high four blocks.
- Senior setter Emma Rose continued her stellar offensive play, posting 44 assists and continues to lead the MAAC with 11.1 assists per set.
- Red shirt junior libero Jessica Paolucci posted a match-best 23 digs and was perfect on 25 serve receptions to lead the Gaels defensively.
MATCH SUMMARY
After dropping the first set 25-22, Iona rallied to take the second set 25-18. In the third, the Gaels came back from down five points late to earn a 26-24 win under unusual circumstances. Down 22-17, the Gaels scored five of the next six points to cut the margin to one at 23-22. After conceding the 24th point to the home team, Iona faced set point. A Marist attack error was followed by a wild rally that culminated in a double-hit resulting in an Iona point to knot the score at 24-24. Iona was awarded two additional points after the Red Foxes received their second bench warning of the match resulting in a red card. A second card was drawn following additional protests from the Marist bench and the Gaels picked up the 26-24 win after it took several minutes to sort out the occurrence. Iona cruised in the fourth, taking an early 6-1 advantage and never leading by less than four points in the 25-19 set win.
