NEW ROCHELLE, NY – After winning their first three games at home, the Iona Lacrosse program suffered it's first defeat at Mazzella Field 9-6 on Wednesday afternoon to Army West Point
Jenna Tolzmann and
Pamela Giordano led the team in goals, each scoring a pair.
Katelyn Noschese and
Emma Hager each scored one.
On the defensive end,
Gabriella Di Domizio caused seven turnovers and grabbed three ground balls. In net,
Shannon McCaffrey made six saves in the defeat.
In the contest, Iona totaled 21 shots and controlled only five out of 17 draws.
Army opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game but was answered ten minutes later by Noschese's 10
th tally of the season. Army scored the next two over a 52 second span before Giordano notched her 14
th score of the year. Army scored the final two of the half to take a 5-2 lead into the break.
Hager tallied her second goal of the season to start the second half. Iona was unable to contain the Black Knights attack, conceding the next three goals.
The Maroon & Gold tried to mount a rally, scoring the next three goals, coming from Giordano and two from Tolzmann, but were unable to supplant a two-goal deficit in the final ten minutes.
The Gaels continue their homestand next Wednesday at 1:00 PM.
