NEW ROCHELLE, NY – After leading 9-5 with just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation, the Canisius Golden Griffs rallied to knot the score against Iona and scored the game-winner in double-overtime to down the Maroon & Gold 10-9 Friday at Mazzella Field.

Jenna Tolzmann,
Katelyn Noschese and
Emma Hager all tallied a pair of goals in the defeat and
Pamela Giordano notched one.
On the defensive side, Tolzmann and Giordano each caused four turnovers and
Caleigh Gunn caused three.
Gabriella Di Domizio caused two turnovers, bringing her season total to 30, tying an Iona single-season record set by Di Domizio in 2016 and
Jaclyn O'Leary in 2006.
Shannon McCaffrey stopped 11 shots and grabbed two ground balls.
Hager and Noschese gave Iona an early two-goal advantage just over four minutes into the game. After Canisius cut into the lead, Gironda tallied a pair with the second getting dished out from Tolzmann. The Griffins brought the Iona lead down to 4-2 before Tolzmann scored her 24
th goal of the season to put the Gaels back up three. Canisius netted the final two goals of the half, with the last coming with 27 remaining as Iona took a 5-4 lead into the break.
The Maroon & Gold came out hot in the second frame, getting goals from Giordano, Tolzmann and Hager in the first 3:41 to widen the gap to 8-4. Noschese then connected three minutes after a Canisius tally to put Iona back up four with 17:31 to play.
From there, Canisius began to mount a comeback, scoring the final four goals in regulation, with the last coming with 3:20 to play. With 1:08 remaining in regulation Tolzmann sent a shot wide and a
Maureen Murphy attempt was saved by Canisius netminder Rebecca Laeken.
The Gaels mustered four shots in the first overtime period but were unable to tally the game-winner. In the second overtime, Noschese sent a shot over the crossbar and a
Mariah Metcalf shot was unable to find the back of the net.
After the Maroon & Gold turned the ball over with a minute to play, the visitors converted on a successful clear and scored the game-winner with 31 ticks left to complete the comeback.
For the game, the Gaels outshot the Griffs 34-29 and grabbed 27 ground balls opposed to Canisius' 18.
The Gaels continue MAAC play on Wednesday when they travel to Hamden, Connecticut to do battle with Quinnipiac at 3:00 PM.
