HAMDEN, CT - The Iona College volleyball team toppled Quinnipiac in four sets in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Burt Kahn Court.

The Players

Senior Claire Archibald led the Gaels with her seventh double-double of the season with a team-best 13 kills and 15 digs. She added three aces and an assisted block for a match-high total of 16.5 points. Sophomore Jamie Smith and junior Karla Johnson posted nine kills a piece, each playing three of the four sets. Smith added four blocks while Johnson added a pair. Senior Mia Bonsignore posted eight kills and five blocks in the win and junior Tess Connolly had seven kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Emma Rose posted her third double-double with 47 assists and 10 digs. Red shirt junior libero Jessica Paolucci posted 13 kills.

Set Scores

After dropping the first set 28-26, the Gaels rallied in the second 25-23. The Maroon & Gold had set point in the first before the Bobcats posted the final three points of the frame. It was Quinnipiac that held a one-point 23-22 advantage when a bad set knotted the score at 23 and back-to-back Archibald aces sealed the win. Iona cruised in the third and fourth sets 25-13 and 25-12.

Iona (4-4, 2-0 MAAC) improved to .500 overall on the season and remain unbeaten in league play heading into MAAC championship game rematch at Fairfield Sunday afternoon.  The Stags (3-0), the Gaels (2-0) and Marist (3-0) are the lone undefeated MAAC teams halfway through the second weekend of conference play.
