NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College men's water polo program battled against No. 19 Princeton, but the Tigers emerged victorious at the Hynes Center Pool, 10-6. The Gaels trailed by one heading into the fourth quarter, but the Maroon & Gold were outscored 3-0 in the final frame, resulting in the Northeast Water Polo Conference defeat.
GAME SUMMARY
Iona's offense was led by junior
Andrew Brozovic's nine shots and three goals. Senior
Quinn Lloyd scored a pair of goals on four shots and sophomore
Justin Ginsberg rattled the cage once on one shot. He also had one assist. Sophomore
German Rodriguez had eight shots but failed to score, however he did contribute with a team-best three assists.
Offensively the Maroon & Gold drew five exclusions against Princeton. Lloyd, Ginsberg, sophomore
Michael Feeley, Rodriguez and junior
Brett Hofer all got one tiger excluded. The Gaels were kicked out seven times. Rodriguez led Iona with three of the team's seven steals. Lloyd blocked three Princeton shots.
The Gaels were two-for-five on power play chances. Princeton finished the game two-for-seven.
Senior
Jorge Andres Torres faced 22 shots and made 12 saves. He had 10 goals against and five steals.
Iona and Princeton were tied a 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. Lloyd scored both of the Maroon & Gold's scores. Ginsberg scored the Gaels' lone goal in the second, and come the third quarter, it was Brozovic who had a hat-trick in just eight minutes.
