FAIRFIELD, CT – The Iona College women's soccer team fell to Fairfield by a score of 8-1 on Wednesday night. The Stags scored five first-half goals en route to the victory.
MATCH SUMMARY
Iona found itself in an early hole, allowing two Stag goals in under a minute early on in the first half. The first was an own goal off of the foot of an Iona defender on a cross inside the box, catching
Emma Havrilla on her heels. The second goal came from by Liz Dumas on a pass from Nicole Stryjek; Havrilla didn't have much of a chance to make the stop as the Fairfield attackers were in deep on the cross.

10 minutes later, the Stags struck again for another two goals in a 30-second span. Mel Hingher scored both off of Fairfield set pieces from the corner. The goals were the first and second of the season for Hingher.

Gabby Diodati added to the lead in the 30
th minute of the match, registering another goal for the Stags off of a corner kick. The Maroon & Gold went into the half facing its largest deficit of the season.

Amber Crispin began the second half with her ninth goal of the season, cutting the Iona deficit to four goals with a strike past the right side of Aytana Muschajew. Freshman
Sofia Giamanco threaded the needle on a through ball up ahead in the middle of the field, allowing Crispin space to operate one-on-one with the keeper.

Fairfield had a quick answer though; Stryjek battled in front and sent one past Havrilla, making it 5-1 in favor of the Stags. Nine minutes later, Stryjek got another one that she lofted over the outstretched arms of
Angelina DeCicco, who took over for Havrilla.

The Stags would tie a program-record with an eighth goal as Allie Landino scored from the right side in the 65
thminute to give Fairfield an 8-1 edge. Fairfield would roll to a record-setting win on its senior night at Lessing Field, clinching a spot in the postseason.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Crispin's goal was the ninth of the season for the senior and represented Iona's lone tally of the night.
- Giamanco was credited with her second assist of the season on the goal. The rookie is third on the team behind Crispin and Preziosi with six points this season.
- The eight goals allowed is a season-worst for Iona and the seven-goal difference is the largest in any match this year against the Maroon & Gold.
- Fairfield scored twice in a 90-second span on two separate occasions in the victory.
- The Stags held a 25-7 edge in the shot column and limited Iona to just two shots on net across 90 minutes of play.
- Fairfield assisted on four of its eight goals and scored on three corner kicks.
