MATCH SUMMARY
In the first set, the Bobcats let from the start and didn't relent. Jumping out to a 7-2 lead, the Gaels fought back to get within a pair at 12-10. QU answered the Maroon & Gold Run with one of its own, regaining the distinct edge of 18-12. The Maroon & Gold got to within three twice before the Bobcats closed out the set, 25-20.
Quinnipiac had a hitting percentage of .119 in the first set. The Gaels hit .049 and were hampered by four service errors. Iona stayed within striking distance using nine Quinnipiac miscues
Iona jumped out ahead in the second set and held a 12-8 lead following a Bobcat attack error. The Gael lead didn't last long with Quinnipiac going on a 9-1 run to take control, 17-13. Iona wouldn't be able to get within four for the remainder of the set. The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead by winning the second game, 25-16.
The Gaels struggled to hit again, going 0.050 has a team. Iona had nine attacking errors. Quinnipiac had 10 kills and hit .206 in the frame.
Following the brief intermission, Iona dominated the third set. It trounced its way to a 5-0 lead, all on behalf of Quinnipiac mistakes. The Maroon & Gold continued its strong play to a 14-2 lead and just carried its momentum to a 25-15 set win.
Quinnipiac hit a match-low .000 in the set. The Bobcats had six kills.
The fourth set was the most back & forth of the match. The Maroon & Gold led by three, 15-12, but it's handle on the lead floundered with the Bobcats scoring three straight to knot the game 10 points away from decision. The Gaels fell behind in the fourth following a Bobcats 6-1 run to make the score 21-16. Quinnipiac won the match closing out the fourth set, 25-19.
Iona hit .119 and Quinnipiac hit .180 in the fourth. The Gaels had seven attack errors and eight fewer attack attempts than the Bobcats.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Patsos led the Gaels with a team-best 11 kills and 12.5 points. She and freshman Julia Thomas had Iona's two solo blocks.
- Johnson had 10 kills and team-best .400 hitting percentage.
- Sophomore Maile Powell had a team-best 15 assists. Rookie Samantha Juran contributed 11 assists.
- Senior Tess Connolly and Paolucci had Iona's two aces, both coming in the first set.
- Paolucci had her most dominant game as the Maroon & Gold's libero, collecting a season-high 30 digs and 27 receptions. It's the most digs that Paolucci has had since Oct. 12 against Fairfield.
- Quinnipiac's Maggie Baker had a match-high 15 kills on 56 attack attempts. She completed a double-double with 10 digs. Alejandra Rodriguez had 27 digs and 19 receptions.
