Second half was not the Gaels friend as Lafayette outscored them 4-1

Story Links

New Rochelle, NY - Lafayette was able to use the half time break to regroup and edge out a low scoring victory over the Gaels, 7-5. Four Iona players found the back of the net on 25 shots and assisting on two.

GAME SUMMARY

The Maroon & Gold goal scorers were Leah Marshall, Madi Kochanek, Katherine Meyer with one apiece and Sara Stewart with two. The two assists came from sophomore Megan Collins. Out of the 25 shots the Gaels had 18 shots on goal as the goalkeeper Lacy Quinn of Lafayette stepped up big for her team with 13 saves.

Within the first six minutes Iona found the back of the net twice to take an early 2-0 lead. Lafayette would get on the board off a free position goal at the 21:00 minute mark. The Gaels and Leopards would trade goals from there until the end of the first half as Iona had a 4-3 lead going in halftime.

The second half would not favor the Maroon & Gold as Lafayette scored the first four goals of the second half. Iona's scoring drought went on for 31 minutes, as Stewart scored the first goal for the Gaels since the 4:20 mark in the first half. All four penalties in the game were committed by Iona with three coming in the second half.
