NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's basketball team created early separation from Rider and coasted to an 80-54 win in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Hynes Center. A decisive 12-0 run in the first half gave the Gaels a 27-10 advantage less than eight minutes into the contest and the Broncs could not get any closer than 16 the rest of the way.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
- Sophomore forward Nelly Junior Joseph led the Gaels with a 17-point, 10 rebound double-double, his fourth of the season. He shot 5-for-8 from the field and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe and added four blocks in the win.
- Graduate forward Dylan van Eyck posted 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 19 minutes of play.
- Senior Berrick JeanLouis had a season-high 11 points with five rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks.
- Freshman guard Walter Clayton Jr., earning his second straight start scored nine points and dished out three assists while connecting on three three-pointers.
- Graduate Tyson Jolly had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.
- Freshman Joshua Duach scored seven points in seven minutes, his first in Maroon & Gold.
- All 13 players dressed saw action in the contest.
THE OPPONENT
- Rider sophomore Jaelen McGlone posted 11 points and classmate Nehemiah Benson had 10 for the visitors.
- Iona's defensive effort held the Broncs' top five scorers - who averaged 50.5 points per game between them - to just 29 points.
TEAM STATS
- Iona shot 41.9% from the field and connected on seven three-point field goals.
- The Gaels held Rider to a 30.4% field goal percentage and just 1-for-18 (5.6%) from long distance.
- The Maroon & Gold held a 47-33 advantage on the boards and 18-9 on assists.

After a 7-game, 15-day stretch, the Gaels have a much-needed eight-day layoff before commencing a three-game New York City arena tour. Iona takes on Yale at the Barclays Center on Sunday, December 12; Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, December 18, and Delaware at the newly built UBS Arena at Belmont Park on Tuesday, December 21.
