Peristeri Pulls Away Late To Hold Off Iona MBB, 53-48

PERISTERI, GREECE - The Iona College men's basketball team fell to Peristeri, 54-48, in its fourth contest on its summer international tour in Greece. Due to personnel issues with its opponent, the game was played with eight-minute quarters instead of the standard FIBA 10-minute frames.
 
Peristeri led 17-13 after the first eight minutes. The Gaels stormed back in the second quarter and held a 29-25 lead at the half. The home team came back and held a two-point lead at the break. With the score tied at 45-45 with 5:04 to play, Peristeri scored seven straight points over the next three minutes to take the lead for good. Peristeri's defense led to four straight Iona turnovers during the run.
 
Junior Quinn Slazinski led all scorers with 16 points. He shot 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from deep. He added two rebounds, a block, and a steal. Sophomore Nelly Junior Joseph had 12 points and eight rebounds, shooting 5-of-8 from the field. Graduate Dylan van Eyck posted six points and five rebounds, sophomore Ryan Myers had five points, freshman Jordan Wildy had four points and two rebounds in his five minutes of action. Graduate Elijah Joiner recorded six assists in the loss.
 
Half of the eight dressed Peristeri performers recorded double figures. Chad Brown (UCF) posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Linos Chrysikopoulos (Corfu, Greece), Ian Miller (Florida State) and Terran Petteway (Texas Tech/Nebraska) each had 12 points. Chrysikopoulos added seven rebounds and Petteway three steals.
 
Iona shot 15-of-46 (32.6%) from the field and 6-for-24 from deep (25.0%). Peristeri was 17-for-50 (34.0%) overall and 7-for-27 (25.9%) on three-point attempts. The home team held a 37-30 rebounding advantage.
 
Iona completes its Greece tour tomorrow when they take on Ionikos Nikaias B.C. Tip-off is slated for 1:30 p.m. ET. Please note time change from initial schedule release.
