POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona University women's soccer team fell on the road at Marist, 2-1, on Saturday evening at Tenney Stadium. The Gaels conceded a pair of goals in an eight minute span in the first half and were unable to mount a comeback despite
Emily Drake's penalty kick goal in the 59th minute.
MATCH SUMMARY
Iona fell behind early, allowing Marist to score twice in an eight minute span during the first half. Nicole Colantuono opened up the scoring with her fourth goal of the season in the 24th minute. Just over seven minutes later, the Caldarelli sisters combined to put the Red Foxes ahead by two goals. The score would hold heading into the halftime break in Poughkeepsie.
Caroline Scott took over in goal for Iona in the second half, replacing Emma Havrilla. She made saves on the four shots Marist took towards net in the final 45 minutes, keeping Iona within striking distance. Drake was the benefactor of a penalty kick awarded to the Maroon & Gold, burying the chance and trimming the Gaels' deficit to one goal with more than 30 minutes to play.
Iona had late chances, highlighted by a pair of chances for Gabby Dellocono. Dellocono took a free kick that sailed just above the crossbar, then had another chance on a scramble inside the box that Natalie Kelchner corralled to keep the Red Foxes in front. Dellocono's chance was Iona's final shot of the evening, eventually falling on the road at Marist.
