Women's Swimming & Diving Jack Ravitz

Iona Swimming & Diving Sweep Manhattan in Regular Season Finale

RIVERDALE, NY - Behind the strength of 13 different individual winners, the Iona University  men's and women's swimming and diving team closed out their regular season with a pair of wins over MAAC rival Manhattan College.

RESULTS

The Iona women posted seven individual wins from seven different swimmers for 136-56 victory, ending the 2022-23 regular season campaign at 9-2. The Iona Men had 6 individual men claim seven wins en-route to a 152-39 win to end their season at 4-6.

Meet Summary

The meet held at the Riverdale Horace Mann School pool, saw sophomore Ashley Benkert take the 100-yard Free at 54.89; senior tri-captain Grace Curry won the 100-Butterfly at 1:00.74; sophomore Molly Finn touched first in the 100-Backstroke at 1:02.11; junior Megan Josephs won the 200-Freestyle at 1:58.01; freshmen Victoria Novinskiy took the 100-Individual Medley race at 1:00.66; Senior Tri-captain Taylor Spillman was first in the 500-Free at 5:20.53, with freshmen Elisa Vaher winning the 1000-Freestyle at 11:04.61.
 
The Iona men saw two wins from junior co-captain Michael Faughnan, who touched first in the 100-Individual Medley at 52.67 and in the 100-Freestyle at 45.93. Sophomore Brian Baldwin won the 100-Butterfly at 52.98; freshmen James cash touch first in the 1000-Freestyle at 10:18.26; Graduate student Daniel Hadary won the 100-Backstroke at 54.36; freshmen Mikel Palaj took the 200-Free at 1:46.12, with classmate Matthew Woyksnar winning the 500-Freestyle at 4:51.11.

Coaches' COMMENTS

"Collectively, we swam well today and were able to improve on some of the adjustments we had to make from our last meet Wednesday at Fordham and had better enthusiasm and focus.," noted Coach Nick Cavataro. "The next 10 days are very important as we get deeper into taper and final preparations for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in Buffalo," continued Cavataro.
