Iona Water Polo Ends Regular Season With A Win

NEW LONDON, CT - Iona men's water polo ended their season with a commanding 16-7 win over the Camels of Connecticut College this Thursday afternoon. The Gaels finished the regular season with a 12-15 (6-6 NWPC) and the number for seed entering the 2023 playoffs. 

The Gaels jumped out to a quick lead with an impressive first quarter. Iona out scored the Camels 4-0 in the first. Iona tacked on two more to start the second quarter extending their lead to six. Conn College got on the board with 4:14 remaining in the first half. Iona added two more goals and took a six goal lead into the second half. 

The Maroon & Gold opened the second half with two more tallies and extended their lead to eight. The Camels answered with two more of their own, bringing it back to a six goal game. Gaels out scored the hosts 2-1 in the final minutes and entered the final quarter with a seven goal lead. Gaels outscored the Camels 4-2 in the final 8 minutes taking the game 16-7.

Iona will enter the NWPC Playoffs as the four seed taking on MIT in the first round on Nov 17.
