NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona University men's basketball head coach Tobin Anderson announced the addition of Rodrigo Farias to the program for the 2023-24 season. Farias, a 6-1 combo guard, comes to New Rochelle from the Atlanta, Georgia, based The Skill Factory Prep School.
 
"We are thrilled to have Rodrigo on board with the program," said Anderson. We believe he brings a dynamic presence on both offense and defense, and we're excited his addition completes our roster."
 
Farias possesses exceptional ball-handling skills and a lightning-quick first step that make him a formidable guard on the court. He is athletic with a great pull-up jumper and is a long distance threat. On top of his offensive skills, Farias is also a tough defender who consistently disrupts opponents' plays. ESPN ranked him as the 18th best player in Georgia for the 2023 class.
 
While at The Skill Factory, Farias was invited to the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp at NBA All-Star weekend in February 2023, and was among a list of 40 players from 27 countries. He also played for the Dominican Republic's U17 squad at the FIBA World Cup in 2021 where he averaged 17.9 points per game. Farias performed on the AAU circuit with EYBL Georgia Stars and also competed with the NBA Academy Latin America.
 
With Farias' signing, Iona's 2023-24 roster features 12 newcomers joining lone returner Osborn Shema, a graduate student from Rwanda. The 12 student-athlete class features four graduate transfers, two junior college transfers and six freshmen. The Maroon & Gold opens the Tobin Anderson era on Monday, November 6, at the College of Charleston.
