LEWISTON, NY - The Iona University volleyball team dropped a four set decision to Niagara in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Gallagher Center. The Gaels (6-8, 2-1 MAAC) took the first set and fell in the last three in its first road league contest of the 2023 campaign.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Sophomore Mackenzie Wiggins led the Gaels with a 16-kill, 14-dig double double. She added two aces and a block for a match-high 18.5 points.
- Freshman Buse Tinaz had a season-high eight kills and hit .538 from the middle position. She recorded a team-high three blocks.
- Freshman Ezzie Thompson also had eight kills while adding two blocks.
- Graduate setter Samantha Juran posted a 27-assist, 14-dig double double.
- Senior libero Hope Matschner nearly recorded a double-double with 24 digs and nine assists.
THE OPPONENT
- Niagara's Laryssa Imbuzeiro and Cassie Seminoff each had 15.5 points to lead the Purple Eagles.
- Imbuzeiro had eight kills, three aces and six blocks and hit .389 in an all-around effort.
- Seminoff posted 15 kills and a block.
- Libero Bella Peroni had 28 digs in the win.
SET SCORES
- Iona lost the match 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 21-25.
