NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona University volleyball team rebounded from an opening set loss for a 3-1 victory of Manhattan in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Hynes Center. Graduate Grace Ehler and senior Kenzie Wiggins led the Gaels with 13 kills apiece in the win.

THE RUNDOWN

Iona dropped the first set 25-14 before winning the next three 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23. After falling behind 23-22 late in the fourth frame, Iona scored the final three points to seal the match.

IONA PERFORMERS

• Ehler posted three assisted blocks to go along with her 13 kills for a team best 14.5 point effort.
• Wiggins had two blocks and seven digs with her 13 kills.
• Rookies Taylor Timko and Mija Jegers recorded eight and seven digs, respectively. Timko hit .538 and added an ace. Jegers had an ace, a lock and nine digs and returned 28-of-29 serve receptions, a team-high.
• Senior Jen Soto posted seven kills with an ace and three blocks.
• Senior setter Emma Vu had a 24-assist, 10-dig double-double.
• Rookie libero Avery Gaume had a match-high 14 digs in the win.
• Sophomore Buse Tinaz led all performers with five blocks.

THE OPPONENT

• Manhattan's Maike Bertens posted 19 kills, two aces and a block in a 21.5 point effort to lead the Jaspers.
• Katie Powers had 13 kills and 11 digs.
• Setter Sarah Emmons recorded 39 assists and 12 digs and had six kills.

TEAM STATS

• Iona out hit Manhattan .244-.207.
• The Gaels also had the advantage in aces (8-7) and blocks (9-3).
• The Jaspers recorded 52 kills while Iona had 49.
• Digs were even at 72-72.

UP NEXT

Iona travels to Western New York for its annual swing with Niagara and Canisius this Saturday and Sunday.
