RIVERDALE, NY — The Iona University women's soccer team concluded the 2024 season with a 3-0 setback to Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon. The Jaspers pulled away from the Gaels with a three-goal opening half at Gaelic Park to take the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup.
Iona ends the regular season with a 6-9-4 overall record and a 4-6-2 mark in MAAC play. With Siena's win over Marist this afternoon, the Gaels have clinched a spot in the 2024 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship field.
GAME SUMMARY
Manhattan broke open the scoring in the eighth minute with a counterattack into the Iona end. Amaya Hill played a cross in from the left side to a charging Sami Derrico to chip in from right in front of the goal.
The Gaels fired home its first shot on goal in the 11
th minute as sophomore
Marissa Graziano rifled a shot from 18-yards out right to Jaspers goalkeeper Margaret Brunk.
Manhattan added to its lead in the 19
th minute with another cross from the left side this time by Mayah Wheeler for Nicolette Caneda to head in from right in front of the goal.
Iona sent two more shots on goal in the first half as graduate student

Krystal Haertter sent in shots on goal in the 25
th minute and 35
th minute but were stopped by Brunk.
Manhattan tallied the final goal of the opening half for the Jaspers came in the 37
th minute as Reina Callahan chipped in the loose ball in front for the 3-0 advantage for the home team.
Out of the halftime break, both teams fired in five shots each, but none went on target in the final half as Manhattan walked away with the three-goal win.
Lennon led the with two shot attempts for the game. Rookie
Kayla Kalbaugh made two saves in goal for the Maroon & Gold.
TEAM STATS
- The Jaspers held a 13-11 lead on shot attempts for the game with a 5-3 margin for shots on goal.
- Manhattan totaled three first half saves from Brunk. Iona had two saves Kalbaugh while sophomore Savannah Rogers played the final 34 minutes and saw no shots on target.
- The home team had a 7-4 lead on corner kicks.
AROUND THE MAAC
- Siena locked up the no. 4 seed in the MAAC Championship Field with a 1-0 win over Marist.
- Canisius earned the no. 3 seed with a 5-1 victory over Niagara at home.
- Quinnipiac and Fairfield battle for the regular season championship this evening in Fairfield.
- Sacred Heart is in the driver's seat for the final spot in the field and faces Saint Peter's at 6:00 p.m. in Fairfield.
- Mount and Rider square off in Lawrenceville to close out the regular season at 7 p.m. A win for either side and a Sacred Heart loss or tie moves the winner into the postseason.

The Gaels hit the road for the Quarterfinal round of the 2024 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday, November 3. Iona will play either Quinnipiac or Fairfield in the first round, start time will be either noon against the Bobcats or 1 p.m. against the Stags. The full field will be announced at the conclusion of tonight's matchups.
