MONTGOMERY, NY - The Iona University women's cross country team finished second at the 2024 Metro Atlantic Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at Twin Ponds on the FARM in Orange County, New York. Senior
Madison Klein led a trio of All-MAAC Gaels posting an eighth place finish individually.
RACE SUMMARY
Klein's time of 21:00.8 was good for eighth place follows up a seventh place performance in 2023 and her top 6k effort at the MAAC Cross Country event. It was her second straight All-MAAC honor. Sophomore
Claragh Keane was 12th overall, finishing with a time of 21:05.9. Keane improved both her time and standing from an All-Rookie effort a year ago. She earned All-MAAC honors for the first time after finishing 16th in 2023, one spot away from the accolade. Freshman
Muireann Duffy was both All-MAAC and All-Rookie with a 15th place finish and time of 21:22.1 in her cross country championship debut. Freshman
Kiera Atkinson (21:26.2) and senior
Lucy Miller (21:27.4) crossed just after Duffy to represent the Gaels' scorers. Junior
Kate Tugman (21:51.3) was the sixth Gael to finish inside the top 25, finishing 22nd.
TEAM RESULTS
Quinnipiac repeated as MAAC Champions with 31 team points. The Gaels earned 68 points, well ahead of Rider (110), Siena (117) and Canisius (142), rounding out the top five. Iona and Quinnipiac have combined to win the last 20 MAAC Championships with the Gaels owning 16 of them.
