MORGANTOWN, WV - The Iona University men's basketball team never led in 86-43 defeat at West Virginia in non-conference action at WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers connected on 15 three pointers in the contest to earn the win.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Junior James Patterson led the Gaels with 12 points, shooting 4-for-10 from the field with four rebounds an assist and a steal.
- Junior Luke Junkers posted 10 points, his first double-digit effort as a Gael. He connected on 3-of-5 attempts from long distance.
- Rookie Adam Njie had six points and a team-high four assists.
- Sophomore Comeh Emuobor led with eight rebounds, seven on the offensive glass.
- Senior Dejour Reaves posted four rebounds and four assists.
THE OPPONENT
- Javon Small led four double-digit scorers with 23 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
- Amani Hansberry posted 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
- Tucker DeVries and Jonathan Powell had 13 and 11 points, respectively.
TEAM STATS
- Iona shot 23.7% from the field and 26.3% from long distance. West Virginia used a 65.0% effort from the field in the second half to post a 51.8% from the game. The Mountaineers connected on 15-of-31 three-point attempts (48.4%)
- The home team earned a slight, 39-36 edge on the glass. Iona led 18-12 on the offensive glass though held a 19-12 deficit on second chance points.
- Iona had six assists and a season-high 21 turnovers, while West Virginia posted 15 assists and 16 giveaways.
UP NEXT
The Gaels return home for one last game before the Thanksgiving holiday when they host Cornell at the Hynes Center on Monday (Nov. 25) in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
