THE RUNDOWN
The first 14-plus minutes of the contests saw 10 lead changes and three tie scores. Trailing by two at the 5:40 mark, the final of both in the contest came from the free throw line as Reaves connected twice to put Iona ahead 22-21. The final lead change came towards the start of an extended 13-2 run to end the first half as the Gaels headed into the break with a nine-point, 32-23 advantage.

Saint Peter's scored the first three points of the second half and Iona answered with six in a row. A Reaves three-ball from the wing gave the Gaels their first double-digit advantage at 38-26 at the 18:11 mark. The Peacocks quickly got back to within six and kept their deficit within single digits until senior
Clarence Rupert's free throw made it 46-36 at the 9:17 mark. Saint Peter's hung around and cut it to six again and trailed 58-50 with 4:28 remaining. Iona scored six straight points to gain its largest lead of the contest, a run punctuated by a steal and breakaway dunk by Patterson at the 2:39 mark to put the home team ahead 64-50. The visitors continued to battle, scoring seven straight points to make it a seven-point game with 102 seconds left. Iona held on at the free throw line, regaining a double-digit lead before a late Saint Peter's three pointer made it a nine-point Gaels victory.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Reaves 19-points came on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 from long distance and a 9-for-10 effort from the free throw line. His all around effort included four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
- Patterson's 18 and 11 double-double came with a strong second half performance, with 13 points and eight boards coming in the final 20 minutes. He added three steals and a block in 33 minutes. It was his first Division I double-double.
- Njie also had a strong second half, scoring 14 of his 16 tallies.
- Rupert, in his first game against the team he played for as a freshman, posted nine points, nine rebounds, dished out four assists and had two blocks in the win.
- Graduate Jalen Barr added nine rebounds and two blocks in the win.
THE OPPONENT
- Saint Peter's Marcus Randolph scored a game-high 29 points, shooting 7-for-14 from the field with four three pointers. He was 11-for-13 from the free throw line with four rebounds and two assists.
- Armoni Ziegler poste 11 points and a team-best six rebounds.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Iona out shot Saint Peter's 42.0%-37.3% overall, 33.3%-22.7% from long distance and 68.6%-60.6% from the free throw line.
- The two teams combined for 46 fouls and 68 free throws with 31 whistles and 52 coming in the second half.
- The Gaels out rebounded the Peacocks 41-33, posting 20 offensive rebounds. It was their second game of the season with 20 or more offensive boards for a team coming in ranked No. 4 in the NCAA in the statistic.
- The Maroon & Gold held a 20-16 advantage in second chance points.
- Saint Peter's posted 10 assists and 16 turnovers while the Gaels had 10 assists and 19 turnovers. The Peacocks led 18-16 in points off turnovers.
UP NEXT
With final exams coming up, Iona embarks on a needed 14-day break from action after playing 11 games in the first 35 days of the season. The team returns to action on the road at Colgate on Sunday, December 22 before returning home to host Harvard after the Christmas holiday on Sunday, December 29.
