RIVERDALE, NY - Manhattan used a strong opening to the second half to secure a 77-60 victory over the Iona University men's basketball team in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Draddy Gymnasium. A 10-2 run to start the final 20 minutes put the home team ahead by double-digits and a deficit the Gaels could not overcome.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Rookie Jeremiah Quigley led the Gaels with 13 points and four assists. He shot 5-for-10 from the field with a three-pointer.
- Graduate Joel Brown had 10 points, a career-best fourth straight contest with double-digit points. Brown had an assist, a rebound and two steals.
- Graduate Idan Tretout posted nine points and three assists.
- Rookie Jean Aranguren added eight points off the bench.
- Sophomore Isaac Brice led with four rebounds.
THE OPPONENT
- Manhattan had five players in double-figures led by 20 points from Shaquil Bender, he added eight rebounds and five assists.
- Daniel Rouzan scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, shooting 8-for-11 from the field.
- Jaden Winston recorded 11 points and 13 assists.
- Seydou Traore led with 10 boards.
TEAM STATS
- Manhattan out shot (55.2%-49.0%) and out rebounded (34-19) the Gaels. They were 11-for-21 from long distance and led 6-2 on second chance points.
- The Jaspers had 27 assists and 14 turnovers while the Gaels had 17 assists and 11 giveaways. The Gaels led 17-11 on points off turnovers.
MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP SEEDING
With the loss, Iona can finish with either the seventh or eighth seed in next week's MAAC Championship and draw either the Jaspers, Canisius or Saturday's opponent, Siena.
