NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona University softball team earned a 6-0 shutout victory over Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon. The Gaels out hit the Mountaineers 12-1 in the series finale at Donald E. Walsh Field.
After the game, Iona held its Senior Day recognizing graduating seniors

Alyssa DeJianne,
Kaylin Flukey,
Kayla Haywood and
Jamie Sheeran.
Redshirt junior
Samantha Rieb spun her second shutout of the season, holding Mount to one hit while surrendering one walk and striking out six. Sheeran led the Gaels offensively going 2-for-3 with four runs batted in. Her first inning home run tied the program record of 44 career home runs. Haywood along with junior

Hannah Werth all recorded multiple hits.
GAME SUMMARY
Sheeran opened the scoring for Iona with a two-out home run over the left field wall for the 1-0 advantage.
Scoring slowed over the next few innings between both teams. Rieb fanned five Mountaineers over the first five innings and left three runners stranded. While Iona had stranded six runners in the middle innings.
Iona got rolling again in the bottom of the fifth as Haywood led off the frame with a ground rule double to left field. After a fly out, sophomore
Brooke Acker lined an RBI single to center field to score Haywood. Sophomore
Hailey Guerrero continued the inning with a single through the left side. Bailey gave Iona the 3-0 lead with a two-out RBI single up the middle.
Rieb carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before a one-out bunt single by the Mountaineers broke it up.
The first three batters in the bottom of the sixth as Werth singled through the right side, Capuano was hit by a pitch and Haywood singled to right center to load the bases. Sheeran stepped to the plate and cleared the bases with a three-run double to left field to cap the scoring.
Rieb retired the Mountaineers in the top of the seventh to secure the shutout win.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Sheeran launched her seventh home run of the season and tied the program's career mark of 44 home runs. She drove in a season-high four runs and pushed her career total to 125 runs batted in.
- Haywood recorded her 13th multi-hit game on the year.
- Bailey and Werth both posted multiple hits for the second time this season.
- Rieb registered her second shutout and 10th win in the circle. She has recorded nine complete game efforts this year.

The Gaels will head to Jersey City for a weekend series against Saint Peter's beginning Saturday, May 4 with a doubleheader. Iona enters the final weekend of the regular season in fifth place in the MAAC standings looking to clinch a MAAC Tournament berth.
