GAME 1 VS. CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Central Michigan took the match 25-5, 25-13, 22-25,25-19.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Wiggins posted nine kills with a block for a team-high 9.5 points scored. She also added 11 digs in the loss.
- Rookie Kari Smith had six kills and three aces and had a season-best 12 digs.
- Graduate Grace Ehler recorded seven kills and three blocks while classmate Jen Soto had six kills and four blocks.
- Rookie setter Jaylyn Simon had 14 assists and seven digs.
- Sophomore libero Ava DeGuzman led with 15 digs.
THE OPPONENT
- Abby Olin was the top point scorer for the Chippewas, with seven kills and four blocks for a total of 11.5 points.
- Linnea Willer led with nine kills and added three assisted blocks.
- Setters Keelyn Muell and Allie Korba each recorded double doubles. Muell started had 19 kills and 10 digs while Korba posted 20 and 13 off the bench.
- Libero Hannah Langton had a match-best 22 digs.
GAME 1 VS. FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
After taking the first set 25-23, the Gaels dropped the final three 25-23,25-22, 25-18.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Wiggins posted her top offensive output of the season thus far, with 17 kills. She completed a double-double a season best 20 digs.
- Rookie Mija Jegers posted nine kills and two blocks.
- Ehler added nine kills.
- Both Gael setters Simon and senior Emma Vu had double-doubles. Simon posted 17 assists and 111 digs while Vu had 14 and 14. Both double-doubles where the first of the season.
- DeGuzman added another 18 digs in the match.
THE OPPONENT
- Three Knights recorded double-digit points with Eleonora Tosi's (13.5) 12 kills and three blocks, Kylie Nott's (12.0) nine kills, four blocks and an ace and MacKenzy Ruggiero's (12.0) 11 kills and two blocks.
- Setter Hannah Schmidt had posted 25 assists and 23 digs while libero Emily Van O'Linda had 16 digs.
UP NEXT
The Gaels continue non-conference tournament action next weekend at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where they will take on the host Hawks, UNC Asheville, and Hampton next Saturday (September 14) and Sunday (September 15).
