BRONX, NY - The Iona men's water polo team fell to Fordham 27–13 on Wednesday night in the annual Judge Cup at the Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center in the Bronx. The Rams jumped out to a 9–3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, using their early momentum to control the game from start to finish.

Despite the loss, Iona saw standout performances on offense. Pavle Musikic led the Gaels with six goals, while Rasko Jevdjovic scored three. Senior Matthew Mischlich added two goals, and Luka Nastic and Daniel Raz each chipped in with one.

In goal, Aleksandar Slavkovic and PJ Bartzen split time, combining for four saves. Iona was kicked out a total of 10 times with Coby Scanlon notching three to his belt. But the Gaels drew 26 ram exclusions.

UP NEXT

Iona returns home for its final two games of the season on Sunday, facing LIU at noon and Connecticut College at 3 p.m. The noon match-up against LIU will be part of Team for Teams, an event supporting Hodgkin's lymphoma awareness.

JUDGE CUP HISTORY

The Judge Cup honors the legacy of Dr. Judge, patriarch of a remarkable water polo family with deep ties to both Iona and Fordham. Judge was the father of five Iona players: Greg '84 (Goal Club Hall of Fame '03), Matt '86 (HOF '09, also a volunteer assistant coach), Ray '87 (HOF '09), Mike '94, and Kevin '95. His second-oldest son, Chris Judge '80, played for Fordham, was inducted into the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996, and went on to coach the team. Continuing the tradition, Chris's son and Dr. Judge's grandson, Patrick Judge '18, now serves as an assistant coach for Iona. This annual rivalry between Iona and Fordham, named in honor of the Judge family's contributions to both programs, is currently led by Fordham, who now holds a 10–3 advantage in the Judge Cup series.
