Iona Swimming & Diving Splits At Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Iona University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Team took to the road Saturday to face the Broncs of Rider University for the first time head-to-head since 2006. The match-up of MAAC foes saw the host take the men's 170.5-108.5 as the Iona women prevailed 180-117.
 
The win for the Iona women raised their record to 2-0 as the men go to 1-1 on to season. The two teams split the opening 200-yard Medley Relay with the Iona women's quartet of Raegan O'Brien, Francesca Fields, Victoria Mordaunt and Nia Thomas winning by 2.31 at 1:49.05. The Iona men 's 200-Medely Relay team of Kieran Egan, Mac Buchen, Wyatt Julian and Nate Wales were .55 short of Rider at 1:32.21.
 
The Iona women won 9 of the 14 individual events with wins on the day Marissa Hengesbach in the 200-free (1:57.97) and 200-Butterfly (2:12.59); Raegan O'Brien in the 100-Back (58.75); 200-Back (2:08.24); Fields took the 100-Breaststroke (1:08.51); Sydney Cronin grabbed the 200-Breaststroke (2:27.70); Kate Kennedy won the 500-Free (5:15.59); Mordaunt added a win in the 100-Butterfly (59.31) and Brennyn Veit took the 200-Individual Medley (2:14.38).
 
The Iona men grabbed six gold on the day with Harry Platt taking the 200-Free (1:43.04) and the 100-Free (46.84); Wyatt Julian posted a .11 win in the 100-Back (51.33); Kieran Egan cruised to a 3.5 second win in the 200-back (1:53.31); Max Buchen touched first in the 200-Breaststroke (2:07.34) and 200-Indvidual Medley (1:58.89).
 
Both the iona women and men closed out the meet with a pair of big relay wins as the women's team of O'Brien, Elissa Vaher, Hengesbach and Kennedy combined for a come-from-behind win by .54 at 3;39.42. The Iona men with Egan, Elijah Decasseres, Wales and Platt touched first by .51 winning at 3:06.85.

UP NEXT

Iona returns home for a Homecoming weekend on Friday (diving only) as they face off with Sacred Heart University and Wagner College in a Women's and Men's meet, with the swimming portion on Saturday.
