Iona Swim & Dive Splits Results Against Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Iona University men's and women's swimming and diving teams hit the road this weekend for a dual meet at Monmouth University. The Gaels' women's squad continued their strong start to the season with a commanding 158–103victory, while the men's team battled hard before falling 175–85 to the Hawks.

The Gaels' opening 200-yard medley relay set the tone for the day, with the team of Francesca Fields, Raegan O'Brien, Victoria Mordaunt, and Mary Grace Waring touching first to secure early points. Freshman Victoria Mordaunt had a standout meet, claiming two individual victories. She won the 50-yard freestyle in :25.25 and the 100-yard butterfly in :58.76, and also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke behind O'Brien.

Raegan O'Brien had a dominant day in the backstroke events. She captured the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.06, nearly seven seconds ahead of the field, and won the 100-yard backstroke in :58.53, with Mordaunt just 1.50 seconds behind for a Gaels 1–2 sweep. Mary Grace Waring added another gold in the 100-yard freestyle with a winning time of :54.38, while Kate Kennedy took first in the 1000-yard freestyle, with teammate Anabel Huffstutler finishing second to give Iona a strong finish in the distance events.

Although Iona dropped a close race in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Gaels' early dominance and consistent top-three finishes across multiple events led to a decisive 158–103 victory over Monmouth.

The Iona men's team fought hard throughout the meet, with several strong individual performances despite the final score. Max Buchen narrowly missed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing just 0.3 seconds behind the winner. Nick Patino secured the lone first-place finish for the Gaels, winning the 50-yard freestyle in :21.8.

The Gaels return to action on Friday, Nov. 15, when they host Saint Peter's at the Hynes Center Pool with a 1 p.m. start.
