NEW YORK, NY – The Iona University men's basketball team fell 91-64 to No. 22/21 St. John's in non-conference action at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm used a decisive 10-0 run over a two-minute stretch in the second half to create separation and held the advantage over the final 11 minutes. Graduate

THE RUNDOWN
Iona opened the game with strong energy, building a 10-2 lead and stretching the advantage to eight just over five minutes in. St. John's responded with eight straight points to even the score at 10-10 with 11:33 remaining, igniting an 18-2 run that gave the Red Storm a 20-12 edge at the 8:48 mark. The home team pushed the lead to as many as 12 late in the half, but the Maroon and Gold battled back to cut the deficit to six before heading into the locker room trailing 36-26.

Trailing 41-31 just over two minutes into the second half, Iona scored eight of the next 10 points to pull within four. A stepback three by graduate
Toby Harris made it 43-37, and moments later Anthony jumped a passing lane near midcourt and finished at the rim to make it 43-39. After Anthony knocked down a deep stepback triple from well beyond the arc to again trim the margin to four with 14:22 remaining, St. John's answered. Oziyah Sellers connected on a long three of his own, sparking a decisive 10-0 run. Iona was unable to get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Anthony led four Gaels in double figures with 20 points on 9-for-19 shooting. He also added four steals, three assists and two rebounds.
- Harris finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, knocking down 2-of-5 from three-point range.
- Senior Lamin Sabally contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, an assist and a steal.
- Junior Kosy Akametu scored 10 points, while classmate Denver Anglin added seven.
THE OPPONENT
- Sellers paced the Red Storm with 19 points and five rebounds while shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
- Ian Jackson chipped in 14 points to go with three assists and three steals.
- Bryce Hopkins and Joson Sanon each recorded 13 points and five rebounds.
- Dillon Mitchell and Lefteris Liotopoulos added 10 points apiece, giving St. John's six double-digit scorers.
- Zuby Ejiofor was held to six points but made his presence felt with 10 rebounds and eight blocks.
TEAM STATS
- St. John's shot 51.7 percent from the field compared to Iona's 38.0 percent, aided by a 65.5 percent effort in the second half.
- The Red Storm held a 42-31 edge on the glass and a narrow 12-11 advantage in second-chance points, despite Iona pulling down more offensive rebounds.
- St. John's finished with 12 assists and 17 turnovers, while Iona totaled six assists and 13 giveaways.
- The Gaels held a 38-36 scoring advantage in the paint, but the difference came at the foul line, where St. John's went 21-for-25 and Iona shot 5-for-7.
