STONY BROOK, NY — The Iona University softball team fell to Stony Brook, 2-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. On the heels of yesterday's doubleheader win over Maine, the Gaels were outhit 6-2 by the Seawolves at University Field.

Nadia Andarowski pitched the first three and a third for the Gaels, striking out three and surrendering two runs on two hits. Rookie Hadley Donnely pitched the final two and a third innings and recorded a career-high four strikeouts.
GAME SUMMARY
Iona got the first hit of the game with a second inning base knock from Palmer in the top of the second. The Gaels then threatened with a runner in scoring position in the third inning as first-year catcher
Jovanna Donaruma reached on a fielding error then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and groundout. Stony Brook evaded trouble with an inning ending ground out to short.
Stony Brook got going in the bottom half of the third with back-to-back two out hit by pitches. The Seawolves first hit of the contest was a big one as an RBI single up the middle gave the home team its first run of the game. A one-out home run in the bottom of the fourth gave Stony Brook the 2-0 advantage.
Donnelly escaped trouble in the fifth inning as the Seawolves had runners in scoring position with one-out, recording a pair of strikeouts to end the frame. Iona was held to just one hit over the final five innings as Guerrero lined a two-out infield single in the sixth inning as Stony Brook used stellar defense to secure the non-conference win.
UP NEXT
The Gaels starts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on the road this weekend. Iona begins league play with a three-game series at Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 22 with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
