NEW ROCHELLE, NY
– Iona University men's basketball head coach Dan Geriot announced the appointment of Kris Saulny as an assistant coach. Saulny joins the Gaels after three impactful seasons on the coaching staff at the University of Pennsylvania and brings experience from both the Ivy League and Atlantic 10 to New Rochelle.
Â
"We're thrilled to welcome Kris to the Iona family," said Geriot. "He's an elite communicator, a tireless recruiter, and has consistently been part of programs that develop high-level student-athletes. His energy and attention to detail will be invaluable as we continue building a championship culture here at Iona."
Â
During his time at Penn, Saulny played a key role in the development and success of several All-Ivy performers. In his first season, junior Jordan Dingle earned Player of the Year honors from the Ivy League, the Philadelphia Big 5, and the ECAC, while finishing third in the nation in scoring. The Quakers finished third in the Ivy standings, narrowly missing out on a title. In his second year, Clark Slajchert became the program's 42nd 1,000-point scorer and was named First Team All-Ivy, highlighted by a 76–72 win over then-No. 21 Villanova - Penn's first victory over a ranked opponent since 2018. In 2025, sophomore Sam Brown earned All-Ivy recognition for his standout season.
Â
Prior to Penn, Saulny served as a graduate assistant coach at George Washington University under Jamion Christian in 2021-22, focusing primarily on the team's defensive efforts. He began his coaching career at California Lutheran University, where he spent two seasons at the Division III level.
Â
A Washington, D.C. native, Saulny played collegiately at Widener University, earning a degree in Business Administration Management and Marketing. He later earned a master's certificate in Management and a Quantitative Business Foundations certificate from Penn.
Â
Saulny joins a Gaels program led by Geriot that continues to shape a dynamic and forward-thinking coaching staff ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. The current staff includes General Manager Craig Moore and Assistant Coaches
Patrick Wallace, Michael Thompson, and now Kris Saulny.
