NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona University women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2025 season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Le Moyne on Sunday evening. The Gaels broke through in the heatwave at Mazzella Field courtesy of a goal 42
nd minute from rookie
Mya Jackson.
Jackson tallied her first collegiate goal with a header off the cross from junior
Camille Daniel, who also registered her first career assist on the play. Junior
Savannah Rogers made three saves in goal for the Maroon & Gold for her second career shutout.
GAME SUMMARY
The Dolphins looked to carry momentum early in the contest with three shots in the opening 14 minutes. Rogers made two stops on attempts inside the 18-yard box to hold the opposition.
Iona's offense was held without a shot till the 16
th minute when an attempt from senior
Krystal Haertter missed just over the crossbar. Haertter rifled another shot in 19
th minute from 30-yards out that bounced off the right post.
The Gaels continued to work the ball in the Dolphins' end as the opening half ticked away. Daniel made a long throw in attempt in the 42
nd minute towards the left side of the box. The clear attempt went right back to Daniel for a sweeping cross to the dead center of the of the 12-yard box for Jackson to connect on the header and the 1-0 Iona advantage.
Out of the halftime break, Le Moyne won a breakaway attempt after the Iona restart. Rogers was there to make another save in the 49
th minute on the shot attempt from 15-yards out. That would be the lone Dolphins shot attempt of the half as the Gaels defense buckled down.
Iona would also have just one-shot attempt in the second half in the 67
th minute as Jackson looked to add to her tally with a right footed redirect on a cross at the doorstep that was denied. From there the Gaels would cruise to the 1-0 shutout victory and avenge last season's defeat up in Syracuse.
