RIVERDALE, NY — The Iona University Softball team concluded the 2026 regular season with its fourth consecutive win with a 11-0 victory over Manhattan. The Gaels recorded three home runs at Gaelic Park to earn the weekend series sweep over the Jaspers at Gaelic Park.
Graduate student
Kenadie Gonzalez opened the home run party with her first home run of the season. Senior
Brianna Fischer tallied her second home run of the series with a solo shot. Rookie
Rachael Morales tallied a three-hit, five RBI game and capped the scoring with a three-run shot in the fifth inning. Rookie
Melissa Gordon recorded her second straight shutout in the circle for the Maroon & Gold.
GAME SUMMARY
Both teams threatened in the first frame with runners in scoring position but were unable to capitalize.
After two quick outs in the top of the second, Gonzalez stepped into the batter's box and smoked the first pitch offering over the left field wall for the first run of the game. The inning continued as senior
Hannah Werth worked a walk and then stole second. Morales lined the sixth pitch of her at bat to center for the RBI single and 2-0 Iona lead.
The Gaels tacked on one more run in the top of the third as Fischer blasted a two-out home run to left field.
Manhattan looked to answer with two runners on and one out, but Gordon was able to escape trouble with a pop out and then a diving stop from senior
Hailey Guerrero for the final out of the frame.
In the fourth, Gonzalez got Iona started with a one-out four pitch walk. Rookie
Katie Heisey then came on to pinch run and stole second base. Werth earned a walk before both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Morales lifted the sacrifice fly to center field to bring the score to 4-0.
Sophomore
Addie Smith opened the fifth inning with a one-out single to center field. Fischer followed with a walk before both slid into scoring position on a wild pitch. Guerrero then walked to load up the bases for the Gaels. Senior
Brooke Acker tallied an RBI four-pitch walk. A wild pitch followed to score Fischer and then Gonzalez won a six-pitch at bat for a walk to load the bases once again. Sophomore
Marylou Piazza stepped to the plate and lined the 3-2 pitch to the gap in left center to drive in a pair of runs. Morales cleared the bases with a three-run shot over the center field fence to give Iona an 11-run advantage.
Gordon issued just one hit in the fifth before securing an inning ending line out to short. She scattered six hits and two walks with one strikeout in her second shutout of the weekend.

The Gaels will take on No. 6 seed Siena in the opening contest of the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Championship at Marist on Wednesday, May 6. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m. and will air on ESPN Plus.
