PRINCETON, NJ - The Iona University women's cross country team finished 13th overall in the team standings among a strong 17 school race field Saturday at the Princeton Meadows Challenge, competing in the women's 6k on the Meadows Campus course. Sophomore Sofia Lumbreras led the Gaels with a 47th-place finish in 21:03.0.
 

THE RUNDOWN

Iona finished 13th overall with 378 points, competing against a field that featured eight teams ranked or receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Top 30 poll.
 
No. 10 Alabama captured the team title with 57 points, followed by No. 19 North Carolina with 75. Providence, Duke and Syracuse, all receiving votes, rounded out the top five.
 

IONA PERFORMERS

Lumbreras paced the Gaels with a time of 21:03.0, placing 47th overall. Sophomore Alex Schulz followed in 63rd at 21:14.7, while junior Kiera Atkinson was one spot behind in 64th with a time of 21:14.8.
 
Sophomore Kayleigh Atkinson finished 116th in 21:51.6, followed by junior Ruby McPhillips in 139th at 22:15.3. The top five Iona finishers contributed to the Gaels' team score.
 
Freshman Allison Oram placed 164th in 23:05.3, while senior McKenna Arguien finished 167th in 23:09.7. Freshman Amanda Knapp crossed in 176th at 23:46.0, followed by sophomore Gabrielle Carroll in 177th at 23:49.4. Sophomore Arabella Dickfos rounded out the Iona contingent in 179th with a time of 24:11.7.
 

TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS

Alabama's Caren Kiplagat won the individual race in 19:12.4, followed by Duke's Victoria Garces in 19:43.1. Alabama runners Cynthia Jemutai and Mildred Rono finished third and fifth, respectively, while Providence's Gabby Schmidt placed fourth.
