Kam Murrell enters his second season as assistant coach of the Iona University men's basketball program. Murrell served previous two seasons with Tobin Anerson at both St. Thomas Aquinas and Fairleigh Dickinson and played an additional two seasons for Anderson with the Spartans from 2017-2019.

On the sidelines, Murrell helped lead FDU to the Northeast Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and two wins, including a First Four victory over Texas Southern and just the second No. 16-seed-over-a-No. 1 seed win in tournament history when the Knights took down Purdue. In 2021-22 STAC finished with a 28-5 overall record and an appearance in the 2022 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament Sweet 16. Under Anderson, Murrell has served as a recruiter, an academic advisor and was responsible for scouting reports, travel, video coordination, skill development and strength and conditioning.

After concluding his career as a student-athlete, Murrell was a graduate assistant for two years at the University of Memphis, under head coach Penny Hardaway. At Memphis, Murrell assisted with opponent scouting, game film coding and the creation of player personnel videos. Additionally, he collaborated with the Tigers' analytics team to create statistical pre-game and post-game reports for coaching staff while also maintaining and monitoring the daily recruiting database for the program. The Tigers won the postseason NIT Championship in 2021.

Murrell played his final two seasons for Anderson at STAC, scoring nearly 500 points and averaging just under 10 points per game. He was team captain as a senior and helped lead the Spartans to NCAA Tournament appearances and the Sweet 16 in 2019. Murrell played two seasons for George Mason under newly minted Holy Cross head coach Dave Paulsen. As a scholastic athlete, the Long Beach, California, native played a postgraduate season at the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida following a career at Long Beach Poly.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from STAC in 2019 and a master's degree in Sports and Hospitality from Memphis in 2021.
