Over the last six seasons at Iona, Johns has been part of three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament championships in 2018, 2019 and 2021, three MAAC regular season titles in 2018-19, 2021-22 and 2022-23 and three 20+ win seasons

Year five for Johns' saw the Gaels increase its conference record to 12 MAAC regular season titles and a 25-win campaign. Four Iona student-athletes earned all-league honors headlined by Player of the Year Tyson Jolly, fellow first teamer Nelly Junior Joseph, second teamer Elijah Joiner and All-Rookie selection Walter Clayton Jr.  He was also part of the staff that saw Hall of Fame head coach Rick Pitino earn MAAC Coach of the Year honors.

In Johns' fourth season in New Rochelle, he helped guide the Gaels to continue its streak of NCAA tournament appearances. Johns was instrumental in the development of shooting guard Isaiah Ross, who was named First Team All-MAAC, leading the conference in scoring and ranking 57th nationally at 18.4 points per game. Johns was also part of the development of Junior Joseph, who was named Rookie of the Year.

In the prior seasons, Johns assisted in the development of Tajuan Agee, E.J Crawford and Rickey McGill. Crawford earned back-to-back First Team All-MAAC as Tajuan Agee earned back-to-back  All-MAAC Second Team accolades. Both Crawford and Agee set personal-bests in scoring as part of their development.

In two seasons with the Monroe women in nearby downtown New Rochelle, Johns led the Mustangs to a 31-27 record and a Region XV Championship in 2016 and a District III Championship in 2017.

As a men's assistant from 2012-15, Johns coached multiple All-Region and All-American players, including two Region XV Players of the Year. During his coaching career with the Mustangs saw his players move onto NCAA institutions such as Stony Brook and South Carolina Upstate.

Johns was no stranger to Monroe, though, having played for the men's team from 2003-2005 and went down as one of Monroe's greatest basketball players. He is the second leading scorer in Mustangs history with 1,202 points. Johns earned Region XV Player of the Year honors as a freshman and sophomore, while averaging 20 points per game, which earned him NJCAA Second Team All-American honors.

Johns has playing experience at every level of basketball: high school, college, and professional. In 2002, he was a standout guard at Wings Academy High School in the Bronx and led them to a PSAL Class B title. Johns' Wings Academy squad fell in the 2002 New York State Federation of Secondary School Athletic Associations (NYSFSSAA) semifinal contest to St. Mary's High School, coached by Tim Cluess. After attending Monroe College, Johns went on to the University of Utah, then a member of the Mountain West Conference. In his senior year at Utah, Johns was named a co-captain and averaged 7.5 points per game, while shooting 40.3% from behind the three-point line in the 30 games he played.

Following college, Johns played professionally in Poland, Mexico, Venezuela, and Argentina. He was also a member of the Jamaican National team where he helped them receive gold medals in the Caribbean Basketball Championships in 2006 and 2009.

Johns served as head coach for the International Basketball Academy and assistant coach with Monroe's men's basketball program from 2012-2015. Prior to Monroe, he was a skills development coach at a Utah Pro Performance in Salt Lake City, and was an assistant coach at Juan Diego High School in Draper, Utah. Johns has also worked various camps at the University of Utah, HoopGroup and Five Star basketball.
