Now in his 40th year at Iona University, Sam De Rosa serves as Senior Associate AD for sports medicine and will lead Iona’s athletic training department for the 34th year.

De Rosa began working in Iona’s Sports Medicine Department in 1984 as a part-time assistant to long-time head athletic trainer and Iona icon J.B Buono. In addition to his duties with the Gaels, He served as trainer for the Westchester Stallions of the United States Basketball League in 1993. He also worked with the Senior Tennis Association in the summer of 1994.

De Rosa was promoted to head athletic trainer in 1999 and his current title before the 2016-17 academic year. In his expanded role, De Rosa oversees sports medicine, swimming & diving and water polo. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Iona in 1987 and a master's in health care administration in 2000.

De Rosa is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Under his watch, the Iona Sports Medicine Department has served as training facility to many future physical therapists and certified athletic trainers.

A native of New Rochelle, NY, De Rosa resides in Yorktown Heights. He has two children, Samantha '19MA, and Joe '18, who each earned degrees from Iona. Joe was a four-year standout on the Gaels' baseball team and was an All-MAAC Second Team pitcher in 2016.
