Katie Lynch is entering her second season with the Maroon & Gold as an assistant coach.
Iona College softball head coach Melissa Inouye announced the appointment of Katie Lynch to her staff as assistant coach in Sept. 2014. Lynch most recently served as volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater of Kutztown University.
A four-year member of the Kutztown softball team, Lynch helped lead the Golden Bears to the Division II National Championship game in 2013, and back-to-back NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships in 2012 and 2013. The squad also claimed the PSAC league championship in 2013.
As a player, Lynch was a three-time All-PSAC East Team selection and was the PSAC East Freshman of the Year in 2010. During her career with the Golden Bears, Lynch posted a career .310 batting average with 22 home runs, 114 runs batted in and 111 runs scored. She hit a career best .348 as a rookie with 19 doubles. Her best power season came in 2012 when she hit 12 home runs and drove in a career-best 42 runs.
Academically, Lynch was a four-year member of the Dean's List at Kutztown and earned All-American Scholar Athlete and PSAC Scholar Athlete recognition as a senior in the spring of 2013. She was also an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
"Katie was a well-rounded student-athlete both on and off the field and her skills will be beneficial to the development of our players," continued Inouye.
Serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the Golden Bears a season ago, the former catcher's main responsibilities was working with the team's battery. Lynch conducted bullpen sessions to work with pitchers and specifically catchers to prepare them for competition, and designated pitch calling and compiling charts for competition.
Lynch took part in aiding in the development of daily practices and worked alongside the team's assistant coach in developing workouts for pitchers and catchers during practices. She worked with the team's players to develop their hitting skills, by conducting drills during practice to help make adjustments and worked on mental approach at the plate.
Lynch recently served as the U-10 head coach at the Spooky Nook Softball Academy, where she worked on developing player fundamentals and dealt with team scheduling and rosters. Lynch also served as an instructor at the Kutztown University Softball Exposure Clinic, Lampeter-Strasburg High School Summer Camp, Lampeter-Strasburg School District Summer Academy and New York Softball Academy. She additionally served as assistant coach of Frozen Ropes Fastpitch's U-12 and U-18 teams.
