Gemma Alexander-Mozeak enters her first season as assistant coach for the Iona University men's and women's tennis programs, joining head coach Katia Bogomolova ahead of the program’s return to competition in 2026-27.
Alexander-Mozeak brings decades of experience across NCAA Division I and Division III tennis, along with an extensive background in coaching, recruiting, player development, and program building. Her career includes multiple head coaching stops at St. John's University, York College (CUNY), Fordham University, and Hunter College.
She enjoyed two successful stints as head coach at St. John’s (2003-05, 2008-12), guiding the Red Storm to multiple top conference finishes and earning the program’s first national ITA ranking, reaching No. 72 in March 2004. Across six seasons, she totaled 57 career victories and posted five double-digit win seasons, including a program-best 13 wins in 2004-05.
Alexander-Mozeak later served as head women’s tennis coach at York College in 2019 and spent two seasons at Fordham, where her teams combined for a 25-9 record.
In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Alexander-Mozeak has held numerous leadership roles in tennis development and community engagement. She has worked with the USTA Eastern Section as a Metro Regional Director and Community Outreach Specialist and served as a Tennis Program Specialist with the Harlem Children’s Zone. She has also contributed to the sport as a board member for both USTA Eastern and the American Tennis Association.
From 1991-2001, she was the proprietor of Gem Enterprise, organizing tennis and basketball tournaments, camps, clinics, and community-based events while fostering connections among athletes, community leaders, and local organizations.
As a student-athlete at St. John’s, Alexander-Mozeak was a conference champion in singles and doubles, a team captain, Most Valuable Player, and an All-Academic Team selection. She also achieved a Top 75 national ranking in NCAA Division I women’s doubles.
Alexander-Mozeak earned her Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Theology and Government/Politics from St. John’s University.
