Iona University Athletics

Nick Russo was named an assistant coach for the Iona College volleyball program at the start of the 2016 season. He is entering his third season with the Maroon & Gold.

Over Russo's time the Gaels have recorded a 23-44, 16-20 MAAC record. There was a six win improvement during the conference season in comparing the 2016 and 2017 season. Last year Russo helped head coach Patric Santiago tutor MAAC Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team honoree Jamie Smith, and All-MAAC First Team Honoree Claire Archibald.

Russo comes to Iona after spending six season as an assistant coach with Molloy College. From 2005-10, he was in charge of practice preparation, recruitment, and video coordination/analysis.

Since 2010, Russo has served as the technical director of Sportime Volleyball Club and their beach volleyball club. He also coaches Sportime’s 15 Gold team.

Russo played club volleyball at Fairfield University, winning two league championships with the Stags. Since graduation, Russo has stayed active in volleyball.  He plays with the USAV and his team finished second at Nationals this year.

He is a certified USAV CAP 1 certified coach.
