James Wolff comes to Iona with 11 years of club coaching and 14 years of NCAA officiating experience. Also being a former student-athlete at Pepperdine University. Wolf entered his second year with the Maroon & Gold. Â
His coaching career started with the Greenwich Aquatics in 2010 and over the years created an elite reputation for excellence. Starting in 2016, he made the first final at a USA Water Polo National Championship in history for an east coast program. Winning the silver medal at the USA Water Polo Rocktober (12 U Nationals)
In 2017, he made history again winning a bronze medal in the platinum division at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics. The only time in history an east coast based club won a medal in the platinum/gold era. Later that year he was awarded with the Ted Newland Distinguished Coach Award for the Northeast Zone. Continuing leading the same group into another National Championship, he won back to back bronze medals at the USA Water Polo Champions Cup (14U Nationals). All of the hard work finally paid off when this past summer (2021) , he finally led his team to a national championship. Winning the US Club Championship in San Diego, CA against a very talented San Diego Shores team in the final. He also added a silver medal that summer at the Futures water polo tournament, the most elite tournament in the US that year.

As an official, he has been a mainstay at the CWPA and MAAC Championships. Rated as a tier-2 official by the Collegiate Water Polo Association and serving USA Water Polo as the Northeast Zones Head Referee. His recent elite assignments have been the 2018 Men’s Senior Nationals and the 2021 NCAA Tournament Play -In game between Princeton University and Fordham University.

In 2016, he was selected by NBC Olympics to assist commentators Wolf Wigo and Julie Swail as a Production Assistant at the water polo competition. Â

He holds a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Connecticut in 2010. Currently resides in New Canaan, CT.
