Christian Gonzalez joined the Iona College men's soccer staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2007 season.
Before his move to New Rochelle, Gonzalez served as the head coach at Mercy College, compiling a record of 32-28-7 in four seasons. He led the Flyers to the conference tournament twice, winning the 2004 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Gonzalez also performs head coaching duties for the Under-14 group of the NYS Olympic Development Program, and is a staff coach for the Super Y League Olympic Development Program's Under-15 group.
He is not unfamiliar with Mazzella Field, as Gonzalez spent the 2002 fall season as an assistant coach with the women's soccer program. His other experiences include coaching stints with FC Westchester and duties as Director of the Camp/Clinic Program with the Wilmington Hammerheads.
Gonzalez holds "A", "B", and "C" licenses from the Unites States Soccer Federation as well as a KNVB Royal Dutch Soccer Federation certificate.
He played collegiate soccer at Fordham University, where he graduated in 1995 with a degree in Communications. Gonzalez then went on to play for the NY Fever and the Wilmington Hammerheads of the USL PRO D3 from '95-'96, and the NY Fever of the Pro Independent League in 1997.
