Omorede Rainey enters his second season as the graduate manager for the Iona University women’s basketball program.
He assists the staff with practice planning and execution, player development, video coordination, travel and logistics. He also oversees the program’s staff of undergraduate managers and team social media accounts. His first season on staff with the women’s program, the Gaels won the MAAC regular season and conference tournament last year.
As an undergraduate, Rainey served the Iona men’s basketball program as a manager during his freshman, sophomore and junior campaigns and head manager his senior year. His duties included recording player stats, aiding in practice, player development, gathering and organizing game film, and coordinating travel with the Director of Basketball Operations. While working as the head manager, Rainey added on the responsibilities of assisting in equipment operations and distribution of team meals and oversaw a managerial staff of 11 students.
During his four years with the men's program, Rainey was a part of two MAAC tournament championships, two MAAC regular season championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and a NIT appearance. For his hard work and dedication to the program he dressed and played for the Gaels on Senior Day in 2022.
In addition to his role as a student manager, Rainey also interned in the Iona athletic department all four years as a marketing intern. He developed ideas to engage crowd participation, designed t-shirt giveaways and created promotional flyers for social media and the campus community.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Iona’s LaPenta School of Business in 2022 and is pursuing his Master of Business Administration in Management.
