Matthew Glovaski was named Iona University's 10th Director of Athletics on May 8, 2018, and enters his sixth year as AD and 19th as an athletics administrator at Iona in 2023-24.

AS DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS:

Glovaski's first year as lead administrator of Iona Athletics was marked by tremendous success on the field, in the classroom and in the community, three tenets of the department's core values. The athletic department captured five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships with the men's and women's cross country, volleyball, men's basketball, and golf teams winning the league's top honor. Two additional programs had competitors in the NCAA Championship in 2018-19, with representatives from both men's and women's outdoor track & field. In the classroom, Iona's student-athletes earned a 3.25 GPA, with more than 170 maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher and recognized on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll. In the community, the Gaels contributed nearly 7,500 hours of service.

The Maroon & Gold also made great strides with a record level of fundraising attained. In early May, Iona University announced a $6 million transformational renovation to the Hynes Athletics Center, the home court of the Gaels' men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs. The project entails upgrades to seating, lighting, sound, floor, infrastructure and scoreboards in addition to the Arrigoni Hall of Excellence in the front entranceway which will showcase Iona's accomplished student-athletes with a fitting tribute to the men and women who have represented Iona and its athletic legacy. Glovaski also spearheaded several capital improvements projects that helped elevate the athletic departments brand and improve the student-athlete experience. Branding initiatives took place in key areas of the Hynes Center, including the hallway outside of the varsity coaches suites and the main stairwell of the building. In addition, improvements were made in Iona's sports medicine facility.

AS ATHLETICS ADMINISTRATOR:

On February 1, 2017, Vice President for Athletic Administration Rick Cole Jr. announced the appointment of Glovaski as Deputy Director of Athletics after serving as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement & External Affairs since 2013. In his position, Glovaski serves as the chief revenue generator and head of the Iona University Goal Club, the fundraising arm for the Gaels' 21 varsity programs.

Prior to his appointment, Glovaski served as the lead administrator for Internal Affairs. In that capacity, Glovaski was responsible for managing and maintaining the entire athletics department budget, the daily fiscal operations, while also handling all aspects of team travel and transportation. Additionally, Glovaski oversaw the strength and conditioning department, facilities operations, and staff payroll.

In his first year in New Rochelle in 2005-06, Glovaski served as Assistant AD for Recreation and Intramurals. The new position served to oversee the day-to-day operations of the new Hynes Athletics Center as well as the recreation and intramural programs at Iona.

PRIOR TO IONA UNIVERSITY:

Glovaski came to New Rochelle from Harvard University where he served for a year and a half in the Athletic Operations department. He gained a wealth of experience in events management at Harvard running numerous athletic events on the Cambridge, MA campus.

In the summer of 2005, Glovaski served as director of operations for the Boston Lobsters, a member of the World Team Tennis association. During the 2003-04 academic year, he served as an assistant varsity baseball coach and head JV coach at his alma mater, Springfield College.

AS HEAD GOLF COACH

For six years, Glovaski served as head golf coach for Iona. At the 2011 MAAC Golf Championships, Glovaski was named the MAAC Coach of the Year. The Gaels' second place finish at the Championships was the best for the Maroon & Gold since 2003, when the Gaels also claimed second. The 2013 squad earned its second runner-up finish under Glovaski as three Gaels earned All-MAAC honors.

In 2013, Glovaski mentored the program to four top-five finishes, after leading five top-five finishes in 2011. During the spring of the 2011, the Gaels finished in the top four of their five tournaments.
