Iona University Director of Athletics Matthew Glovaski announced the elevation of Tom Moran to Deputy AD on August 26, 2021, following Moran’s appointment to Senior Associate AD for Advancement & External Affairs on July 9, 2018. Tom rejoined the Iona Athletics community after having served as Assistant AD for Marketing and Ticket Operations from 2014-2016.

A member of the Iona Athletics Senior Staff, Tom holds a leadership role in several facets of the department. Moran’s direct supervisory responsibilities include athletics development, fan and donor experience, corporate partnerships, and ticket operations. He is the sport supervisor for Iona baseball, men’s lacrosse, and men’s soccer. Tom also serves on the MAAC Baseball Committee.

In 2022, Iona announced the addition of two new varsity sports, men’s lacrosse and women’s acrobatics & tumbling. Moran played a large role in the introduction of these new programs. His responsibilities included building out areas of infrastructure, and he was fully engaged in the hiring process for the new head coaches.

Tom was named to the Iona senior leadership team responsible for managing a $7 million upgrade to the Hynes Athletics Center in 2019. The upgrades included new flooring, seating, scoreboards, lighting and a sound system. Moran was closely involved with several areas of the project, with a specific emphasis on a full renovation of the Hynes Center entryway and vestibule. He led the design and installation of the digitally interactive Arrigoni Hall of Fame featured in that space.

In the fall of 2020, Tom and his staff introduced the 12 Days to Fight the Good Fight initiative; a campaign during the holiday season where each of Iona’s teams has a highlighted day of giving. In the initiative’s first two installments combined, Iona Athletics raised approximately $450,000 from 1,000 gifts. More than 450 of those gifts were from first-time contributors to Iona Athletics.

Despite almost all of Iona Athletics’ traditional revenue generating events being cancelled by Covid-19 in 2020-21, Iona set multiple athletics fundraising records that year. In 2021-22 those figures were surpassed, with the department realizing more than $1,000,000 of discretionary support in a single year for the first time.

Tom led an Athletics working group in negotiations with Columbia University Irving Medical Center, establishing a comprehensive agreement that named Columbia and Dr. Robert Christian as the hospital and team doctor for Iona’s student-athletes in 2021. In addition to orthopedics and athletically related care, the partnership gives Iona’s athletes access to a myriad of resources that will enhance their Iona experience. These areas include a quarterly lecture series for Iona athletes, access to a large mental health support network, nutritional specialists, and more.

Moran oversees a corporate sponsorship program that has more than tripled in value since his arrival, growing from a few small agreements into a robust portfolio, inclusive of a diverse group of local and nationally recognized brands. Sponsors with the Gaels now have the opportunity to leverage fully integrated packages, including multimedia activations, event sponsorships, cobranding initiatives, and in-game promotions.

In 2014, Tom led efforts, in collaboration with student leadership, to establish the Iona Student Pep Band. Following several years of growth, in 2021 the band was adopted by Iona’s Performing Arts division, furthering Iona’s investment in a group that has become an important piece of the game day experience in Gael Nation.

Outside of athletics administration, Moran has significant private sector client service experience. Most recently as a senior manager of client services, he worked for Cheetah Digital (formerly Experian Marketing Services) from 2011-2014, and again from 2016-2018. With Cheetah, Tom managed a large team responsible for major digital marketing integrations for enterprise clients, including American Airlines, Hilton Worldwide, AT&T, and Michaels Stores Inc.

Additionally, Tom has held public relations and ticket operations roles with Barclays Center and the New York Mets. He worked in the ticket services office for the Mets in 2013, and was part of the operations staff for several MLB All-Star Week events in New York. For Barclays Center, Tom facilitated media operations for premiere college basketball events such as Coaches vs. Cancer, the NIT Season Tip-Off, and the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament. Tom was part of the Barclays Center media communications staff for the NBA Skills Competition and Dunk Contest in 2015.

Moran is a 2010 magna cum laude graduate of Manhattan College, where he was a pitcher for four years on the baseball team, team captain as a senior, and was head of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He earned an MBA and advanced certificate in sports and entertainment media from the Iona School of Business in 2015. Tom and his wife Tiffani, who also holds an MBA from Iona, reside in Trumbull, Conn. with their daughter Ryleigh Grace.
