New Rochelle, NY - It turned out to be a beautiful afternoon as the Iona College men's soccer team (4-3-4) defeated Siena College (1-8-1) by a score of 4-0. Four different Gael players added goals to the victory, and goalkeeper Nils Binstock recorded his fourth win of the season.

The scoring began in the eleventh minute as Brian Oelkers slid a pass to Nick Smaldone, who then crossed the ball to Felipe Faundez. Faundez knocked it in from the left side to put the Gaels up for good. The goal was Faundez's third of 2006, and was assisted by Smaldone and Oelkers.

Oelkers would go on to score his first goal of the season as he netted a 25 yard blast in the game's 27th minute. Aly Lo also scored his first goal of the year in the 52nd minute when he lobbed a low-angle shot past keeper Henry Patrick. Pasquale Abiuso was credited with the assist. The Gaels ended their scoring run with a final goal by Fernando Liserra, his first, which was assisted by Tonna Egbuchanum. Liserra knocked in a chip from inside the box which sailed over the goalie's head.

Binstock guarded the net for the Maroon & Gold for 74 minutes before he was replaced by Tom Orbacz for the remainder.

Iona played toward the win in fine fashion, leading Siena 12-6 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks.

The team will continue the MAAC conference portion of its schedule next weekend, battling Fairfield on October 7 at 1:00 pm.
