New Rochelle, NY - Fairfield was able to score twice in ten minutes during the second half of this afternoon's game to take a 2-1 victory over the Iona men's soccer team. A goal by
Nicholas Smaldone was not enough to fend off the Stags.
After a scoreless first half, the excitement picked up for the Gaels when Fernando Liserra put up a shot that hit the crossbar. The rebound was taken for a header by Felipe Faundez, but was knocked down for a save by Fairfield netminder Jon Paul Francini.
Smaldone's goal came in the 56th minute off of a cross from Taurean Manders. The goal was the captain's third of the season.
