New Rochelle, NY - Iona women's basketball continues to impress, as they have now won six straight and all seven conference games this season. The Gaels (12-6, 7-0 MAAC) defeated Fairfield (8-10, 4-3 MAAC) by a score of 66-52 at the Hynes Athletics Center.

Anna McLean was hot off the bench, leading the Maroon & Gold with 14 points to go along with six rebounds and four blocks in 22 minutes of action. Tiara Headen and Lauren DeFalco each scored 13, adding seven and three boards respectively. Headen and McLean combined for a perfect six-for-six from the line.

Baedu Lowenthal paced the Stags with 16 points and six rebounds. She was trailed by Sabra Wrice, who had 14 points and five boards.

The Gaels jumped out in front in the first half, leading by as much as 17 points with seven minutes left to play. A 13-0 Iona run over five minutes midway through had the squad up 32-15. The Stags dropped in two consecutive layups to shorten the distance and outscore the Gaels 13-11 down the stretch for a 43-28 halftime score.

Back-to-back three's from DeFalco gave the Maroon & Gold a 19 point advantage in the second half before Fairfield's 6-0 run brought the Stags to within 13 with 4:36 remaining in the game. Jessica Smith knocked down a jumper to end a nearly five minute Iona draught to push the lead back to 62-47.

Fairfield would net two more buckets before fouling Headen, who hit both from the line with 17 seconds left on the clock. One last free throw shot by Sabra Wrice with six seconds to go closed out the game and the Iona victory.

The Gaels will resume play on Sunday at Marist.
