POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) -- Will Whittington scored 21 points to lead Marist in an 87-65 win over Iona Tuesday.

Marist improved to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Iona, the only winless team in Division I, dropped to 0-14 overall and 0-5 in the MAAC.

James Smith and Jared Jordan each finished with 13 points for Marist.

Anthony Bruin led Iona with 22 points, while Mike Harris had 16 and Devon Clarke contributed 11.

Marist raced out to a 17-0 lead in the first six minutes. The Red Foxes continued to hold the lead throughout the rest of the first half, building it to 32-9 on a free throw by Gerald Carter with 6:14 remaining.

Iona battled back with a 17-8 run over the balance of the half to pull the scoring to 40-26 at the half.

The Gaels continued to chip away at the Marist lead, and pulled within single digits on a 3-pointer by Milan Prodanovic to put the score at 44-35

Marist responded with a 3-pointer by Whittington and layups by Jordan, Smith and Ryan Stilphen.

The Red Foxes shot 50 percent for the game, while Iona finished with a 44.4 percent shooting average.

Marist outrebounded Iona 47-24.
