Baltimore, MD - The Loyola Greyhounds snapped a three game Iona winning streak with a 1-0 shutout over the Gaels this afternoon. The loss was the first for the Maroon & Gold in 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Both teams played through a scoreless first half. Iona held a 5-3 shot advantage in the period, while Loyola led 5-2 in corner kicks. The lone goal of the day came in the second half for the Greyhounds, with Tennant McVea pulling through a scramble in front of the net to score the game winner on a double assist by Glen Leitch and Julian Cantillo.
While Iona was not able to find the back of the net, the squad fired off three shots on goal, including kicks from Roberto Hernandez-Raaen, Aly Lo, and Fernando Liserra. Nils Binstock made fives saves between the posts for the Gaels.
The team will try to add another mark to the win column as they host Niagara for the first of a pair of home contests over the weekend. The game is set to commence at 3:00 pm on Oct. 19.
